Crown Gifts

After many years of maintaining the Crown Gifts site on a legacy platform, Luminary was engaged to bring the site over to Kentico, to bring it into line with Crown’s other websites. The replatforming project gave Luminary the opportunity to streamline the site and incorporate e-commerce best practices. 

The challenge

Owned and operated by Crown Resorts, Crown Gifts is an e-commerce site that takes the guesswork out of finding the perfect gift, whether it's a night at one of Crown's luxury hotels, an immersive treatment at Crown Spa, or a world-class dining experience. This project involved redeveloping the Crown Gifts site from its existing platform onto Kentico 13, with the goal being to bring the site onto the same platform as Crown's other digital assets. 

While the site itself was designed in-house, Luminary handled the development side of the project. One of the key goals was to create a site that would enable content administrators to be more self-sufficient, reducing reliance on developers and minimising the time required for the site’s ongoing maintenance.

What we did

In essence, Luminary took Crown’s designs and rebuilt an entire new e-commerce site on Kentico 13. In the process of replatforming the site, Luminary streamlined the site’s e-commerce functionality, elevated the user experience, and optimised operations around payment and shipping processes. Where possible, we re-used and extended components from Crown’s existing digital ecosystem to reduce development time.

Streamlining the site’s e-commerce functionality 

Luminary improved the e-commerce and checkout experience by implementing new designs and streamlining flows. We also reduced administration time for Crown’s e-commerce team through features such as batch processing and bulk printing of invoices. The ability to manage all stores within a single CMS instance has also future-proofed Crown by facilitating the addition of new e-commerce sites should they be required. 

Elevating the user experience

Search functionality on the site has been improved by using Azure AI Search to assist customers to easily find the products they’re looking for. Digital gift cards have also been introduced to the site to enhance the customer experience.

Optimising operations around payment 

The performance, efficiency and security of payment options has been increased through deeper integration with Crown’s payment gateway provider, Adyen, while the use of webhooks has improved the performance and accuracy of payment transactions.

The result

The resulting website has successfully reduced content administration time, enabling CMS authors to easily add or manage products to set up the e-commerce store, and add marketing content to the site. The new site also offers improved security, ensuring that transactions are not fraudulent and the site is compliant with best practice security standards. In addition, the introduction of digital gift cards as a new product offering has been well received by customers.
