Builder.io

Builder.io is a Visual Development Platform that integrates with your existing sites and apps to facilitate low code visual building to any site or app. The platform combines an AI-powered design-to-code tool, a visual editor, and a CMS.

Builder.io empowers your entire digital team to quickly code, create, iterate and optimise differentiated digital experiences using an API-first platform. Any content in Builder.io can be turned into code, including designs imported from Figma, imported from the web, or created manually with Builder.io's Visual Editor.

How does Builder.io work?

Builder.io is a visual development platform that connects to your existing site or application and enables anyone on your team to create, manage, and publish digital experiences without the need to rely on developers. It comprises two products – Builder Develop and Builder Publish.

Builder Develop is an AI-powered workflow to rapidly turn Figma designs into code. Builder Develop is generated in your choice of framework and is used by development teams to create components for web and mobile apps or websites.

Builder Publish allows teams to generate, visually iterate, and optimise web and app experiences with the combination of AI and a drag-and-drop visual editor. Builder Publish integrates with your existing design system, site, app, and tech stack, and includes dedicated SDKs for every modern Javascript and mobile-native framework.

You can start with etiher Develop or Publish – or combine both. The Enterprise plan for Publish also includes Builder's Headless CMS.

You can decide which parts of your site Builder.io manages and which parts you want to maintain in code. There are three main ways you can incorporate Builder.io:

  • Visual pages: use the drag-and-drop UI to develop everything between your site's header and footer.
  • Visual sections (Enterprise only): make just a part of a page visually editable in Builder.io and use targeting and scheduling to decide who sees what.
  • Structured data: fetch data from Builder.io and use it anywhere in your application, such as menu items.

Builder Headless CMS

Builder.io's Headless CMS provides a centralised hub for structuring, managing, governing, and distributing content to any front end. The Headless CMS works with Builder.io's full suite of tools. The platform allows you to:

Structure and manage content in one central place – Reduce duplicate efforts by creating structured data models to integrate the same content into any front end, giving content editors one place to go to quickly find, iterate, and publish content.

Improve content quality and compliance – Prevent low-quality or non-compliant content from going live by adding automated rules to scan content for issues and customising content workflow stages with role-based permissions.

Save developers time – Help your engineers spend less time on integration workarounds, content caching, or asset optimisation by leveraging the headless CMS's SDKs or REST and GraphQL
APIs.

Use AI to generate text and images – Use generative AI to handle tasks like shortening text to meet requirements, creating SEO meta descriptions, translating content, or generating images in context.

Integrating with other technologies

Builder.io integrates with your existing site or app and renders content much like developers do when writing code by hand. This means you can add visual site building while still leveraging your existing technologies, such as:

  • SEO
  • analytics
  • core user flows control
  • frontend components
  • your framework or platform
  • your current CMS
  • backend data.

You control hosting

Builder.io pushes content to your site or app by connecting to your codebase. You control your site, code, and hosting – Builder.io only passes content to your site or application rather than hosting it. Builder.io content loads asynchronously, so it does not impact the loading of your site. Builder.io content loads immediately after your page loads.
