Our highlights of 2024

From celebrating our quarter-century birthday, to multiple big award wins and welcoming some pretty well-known household names, 2024 has certainly been a year to remember!

If we had to sum up the past year it would probably be ‘a year of highs’. From the literal heights of paragliding in Bali to celebrate our 25th birthday, to the metaphorical heights of winning Optimizely’s ANZ Solution Partner of the Year Award for the second year running, there has definitely been no shortage of reasons to pop the bubbly. We also got to work with a bunch of fantastic clients, new and old, and marked our quarter-century birthday by giving back to the environment.

In no particular order, here are some of our most memorable moments from 2024.

Celebrating 25 years in business

Our 25th birthday celebrations kicked off with the announcement that we have offset our historical carbon footprint through the planting of 5000 mangrove trees in Bali. We have been offsetting our annual carbon impact since 2018 but for our quarter-century anniversary we decided to up the ante and take it right back to when we started operating in 1999.

We also committed to donating $25,000 to charity this year to mark the milestone. Each month since February, our team members have nominated three charities that are close to their hearts to share in the total donation pool.

Of course such a milestone would not have been complete without a good shindig (or two!). The festivities began with a party for our Australian team and clients on the 89th floor of Melbourne’s Eureka Tower, continuing the following week in Bali with a paragliding experience and drinks at the Canna Bali Beach Club.

Former Richmond Football Club Captain Trent Cotchin was among the stars lining up to wish Luminary a happy birthday!

Optimizely Partner of the Year – again!

We were pretty thrilled to be named Optimizely’s Australia/NZ Solution Partner of the Year last year, but to pull it off two years in a row was beyond our wildest expectations! This award honours ‘top-performing partners that have demonstrated outstanding business performance and excellence in the sales and delivery of Optimizely solutions’. Some of the highlights of our partnership with Optimizely in the last couple of years have included achieving Gold Solution Partner status, Senior Developer Ynze Nunnink being named an Optimizely MVP, hosting developer Meetups, and winning a slew of awards for projects including IFM Investors, Legalsuper, Freightliner and Fuso.

No.2 Best Place to Work in Indonesia

We made the Top 10 Best Places to Work Indonesia list for the second year in a row, this year taking out the No.2 spot in the small to medium business category. This was followed up by achieving the No.6 position for the whole of Asia. Between our Indonesian and Australian offices, we’ve now been recognised as a Great Place to Work for nine years running.

Sending 38 people to SXSW Sydney

For the second year in a row, we sent a contingent of our team from Australia and Indonesia to the South by Southwest conference in Sydney. Collectively, our team attended more than 500 hours of presentations, coming home to share their knowledge with the wider team through a series of lightning talks and blog posts. Topics covered everything from advancements in AI to workshops on the role of playfulness in the workplace.

Cooking up a storm – across 3 states

Throughout February, May and June, members of our team rolled up their sleeves in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to participate in OzHarvest’s volunteer program, Cooking for a Cause. OzHarvest began in 2004 with a mission to rescue food and deliver it to people in need. The charity now rescues more than 250 tonnes of food each week. Cooking for a Cause is a hands-on cooking class that transforms this food into restaurant-quality meals, delivered to various charity agencies for distribution to people in need.

Celebrating 20 years with Fleet Plant Hire

While we celebrated our own 25 year anniversary, we also celebrated a 20-year partnership with our longest-standing client, Fleet Plant Hire. Over the past two decades, we’ve worked with FPH to revolutionise the technology for managing earthworks removal projects in Victoria and Queensland. Our collaboration over that time has seen both companies grow significantly, with FPH going from being a small operation to now being a major player in the Australian civil construction Industry.

Welcoming a host of new clients

This year we added a bunch of amazing new clients, including the mighty MCG and MCC (much to our sports-mad CEO’s delight), Launceston Airport, Australian Made, The Burnet Institute, Colliers, Australian Conservation Foundation, RedZed, BYD, Incitec Pivot, Petsure, Institute of Actuaries, Helia Insurance, TasWater, Clayton Utz, Clean Energy Council, and Striven.

We also did some great work with ongoing clients including Clipsal, QIC, Melbourne Airport, ANZCA, Avant, Fred Hollows Foundation, NGS Super, Yarra Valley Water, Beyond Blue, Nintendo, Fleet Plant Hire, Cancer Council Australia, IFM Investors, Netwealth, Fluent Retail, Magistrate’s Court of Victoria, Save the Children Australia, Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC), Churches of Christ, Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific, UNICEF Australia, SureDeploy, ANZIIF, Elkington Bishop Molineaux Insurance Brokers, Melbourne Business School, Legalsuper, SILK Laser Clinics, Zinfra, Justice Services Pty Ltd (Holding Redlich), Adobe, Online Education Services, Prowler Proof, William Angliss Institute and R&J Batteries.

Onboarding new team members

Our team was also joined by five fabulous new team members: Application Developer Alief Mumtaz, Cloud Services Administrator Daud Christian, Producer Dammian Miller, Social Media Assistant Chloe Andrews, and Digital Content Creator Clarice Greening.

Here’s to the next 25!

As we head into our second quarter-century, it’s hard to imagine what the world of technology is going to look like in another 25 years. Will we all have personal robotic assistants? Will there be a Luminary office in space? Will Marty still be using Outlook? Who knows, but we’re looking forward to the ride! Thanks for being part of the journey so far and here’s to a fabulous 2025 and beyond!
