My name is Chloe Andrews, and I’m currently in my final year at Monash University, undergoing a Bachelor of Business and Marketing with a major in Human Relations. Over the last month I had the incredible opportunity to participate in Luminary's internship program, where I worked across the Marketing and People & Culture departments. This experience has been incredible, allowing me to gain invaluable insights into both fields.

First and foremost, I want to extend my appreciation to Marty, Leah, Tami, Claire, and the entire Luminary team. Their support and encouragement made me feel included and valued throughout my internship. I truly felt a part of the team despite my short time being there.

Learning about Luminary as an organisation

My journey began with getting to know Luminary as an organisation. What I found to be a point of difference from other digital agencies was that Luminary places significant importance on its people, which in turn has fostered a strong work culture. This is reflected in the way the employees interact with each other as well as the work they produce.

Furthermore, I learned about Luminary’s refreshed branding position, tagline and assets, as well as the launch of the new website to commemorate 25 years of business. This provided me with an understanding of Luminary’s focus for 2024, reflecting its commitment and ability to evolve in the ever-changing digital landscape.

I also had the chance to attend various stand-up meetings across different teams, including marketing, sales and people & culture. This cross-departmental exposure enriched my perspective on how organisations function cohesively.

Marketing component

In relation to the marketing component, I had the opportunity to work closely with Tami, the Marketing Manager, and Claire, the Marketing Content Creator. This allowed me to gain an insight into the marketing processes of a digital agency.

My key contributions included:

  • Event support: I assisted in the preparation and execution of Luminary's 25th anniversary party, which was an unforgettable experience held at the Eureka Skydeck.
  • Marketing materials: I created engaging marketing materials using Canva for the anniversary celebration, ensuring that Luminary’s branding was consistently maintained.
  • CMS management: Utilising Kontent.ai, I edited CMS pages in preparation for the upcoming website launch, helping to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Media list refresh: I conducted a thorough refresh of Luminary’s media list as well as reviewing directories and identifying new opportunities for Luminary to reach out to.
  • Courses: I had the opportunity to further my learning by completing a ChatGPT Masterclass as well as a Google Analytics course, all with a focus on digital marketing.

Human Relations experience

My journey in the People & Culture department was equally rewarding. I gained practical experience from Leah, the People and Culture Director, which enhanced my understanding of HR processes.

My key contributions included:

  • Recruitment support: I assisted with the recruitment and induction processes, gaining insight into how Luminary attracts and retains top talent.
  • Confluence audit: I performed an audit of people and culture resources, using my findings to create an employee handbook.
  • Personal development: I completed my own DiSC profile assessment, identifying my strengths and areas for growth.

Conclusion

Overall, I enjoyed my time at Luminary and have learned a plethora of new skills that will have a great impact on my own professional growth and knowledge that I can take into the workforce. I am so grateful to have gained so much hands-on experience and an opportunity to contribute to Luminary’s success in both Marketing and HR that I can utilise towards my career.
