“Taking everything into consideration, I would say this is a great place to work” – so say 98% of our team members who completed an anonymous survey in the 2018 Best Places to Work Study.

Luminary came in at number 12 for Companies Under 100 Employees in the annual study, conducted by global research firm Great Place to Work®.

The Best Places to Work index is the outcome of an extensive assessment process, with two-thirds of each company’s evaluation reflecting the responses of an anonymous staff survey, and the remaining third being based on a Culture Audit questionnaire completed by the company.

Questions are based around nine key areas: Thanking, Caring, Sharing, Listening, Speaking, Developing, Celebrating, Inspiring and Hiring. Luminary received a particularly glowing report card in the areas of Caring and Celebrating.

We achieved a perfect score for 13 of the 58 staff survey questions, covering topics relating to the approachability of management, employee autonomy, the ease of taking time off work, being treated fairly regardless of race, ethnicity or sexual orientation, celebrating special events, and having the opportunity to get special recognition. We also got perfect marks for questions relating to being a caring, friendly and fun workplace.

“We embarked on our Best Places to Work journey mainly as a way to gauge how our team members were feeling about different aspects of working at Luminary, and to seek some insights into what we do well and what we could be doing better,” said Luminary CEO Marty Drill.

“When we started this agency nearly 20 years ago, it was founded on the premise of being a place where people wanted to come to work, a place where they were respected and treated like adults. And ultimately a place where they could be their best.

“The fact that we’ve now been recognised as being among the Top 20 workplaces in Australia with less than 100 employees is an external validation of what we set out to achieve. It’s an enormous honour, and something we’re very proud of. We work really hard to make Luminary a place where people love coming into work and it’s just fantastic to have that validated by an independent source.”

Some of the standout perks of working at Luminary include having access to a professional coach and mentor, and an extremely flexible approach to work hours and remote working (with state-of-the-art remote working technology). Luminary team members also have access to a secondment program whereby employees based in Australia can opt to have a stint working out of the Bali office with all flights and accommodation covered, and vice versa for Bali-based team members. We also have monthly team social events and team lunches, and the door is open to four-legged family members.

In announcing the companies that were successful in making it onto the list in 2018, Great Place to Work Managing Director Zrinka Lovrencic said, “The 50 Best Places to Work are leading the way by demonstrating they have high-trust, high-performing cultures. They have significantly less turnover, outperform peers in the stock market and enjoy high levels of collaboration, communication and trust – crucial ingredients to innovation. The 50 Best are setting the standard for all businesses.”
